Dortmund outclass Altach in 6-0 win

BVB got off to a bright start and created the first goal-scoring opportunity in the 5th minute. The chance fell to Pherai, but he was unable to get the better of Altach goalkeeper Kobras, who had plenty to do in the opening half hour. The Black & Yellows enjoyed plenty of possession, passing the ball around brightly and looking to get forward at every opportunity. In the 11th minute, Reyna opened the play out to Schulz on the left, who then slipped it to Sancho. The Englishman attempted an audacious lob on goal which soared narrowly wide. Three minutes later, BVB managed to find the back of the net. Jude Bellingham, making his debut for Dortmund, capitalised on an Altach error to win the ball in midfield. The new signing played it forward to Haaland, who duly passed to the better-placed Reyna. BVB's no. 23 kept his cool and slotted the ball through the goalkeeper's legs to make it 1-0. 

The Black & Yellows were in complete command and fully deserved to be in front. Altach's first sniff of goal came in the 23rd minute when Meilinger lined up a free-kick from 25 metres out. His effort ended up flying over the bar. After a drinks pause, which was agreed upon prior to the match in light of the high temperature, Borussia took control once more. On the half-hour mark, Sancho ghosted past two defenders but was denied from close-range by Kobras. Not long afterwards, Haaland found himself one-on-one with the keeper. He tried to take the ball round him but was hacked down by a flailing arm - penalty for BVB. Haaland stepped up to convert and double the Black & Yellows' lead (36). 

Five minutes later, Haaland played a through ball into the path of Pherai, who seemed certain to score but ended up sending the ball wide of the left-hand post. Shortly before half-time, Haaland put the cherry on top of what had been a successful opening 45 minutes for BVB: Pherai played the ball to Bellingham on the left, who sent a clever back-heel into the path of Haaland. The number nine then drilled the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-0. 

Coach Lucien Favre elected to change the entire team for the second half, but it made little difference to the Black & Yellows' dominance. In the 48th minute, Passlack was kept out by Altach's substitute goalkeeper Casali in a one-on-one. Not long afterwards, Can failed to hit the target from close-range while Wolf sent a header wide of the target from a Hazard corner. Then, in the 62nd minute, Guerreiro hit what looked like a perfect free-kick only to be denied by the woodwork. One minute later, Brandt tested Casali with a powerful shot from 20 metres out, but the keeper was equal to it. Brandt was once again at the heart of the action in the 66th minute: the midfield maestro glided past one defender before sending a shot on goal - again the woodwork prevented BVB from extending their lead. The same thing happened to Witsel, whose 69th-minute header crashed back of the left upright. Down the other end, Karic caused problems for BVB, and he almost managed to pull one back for Altach in the 71st minute after finding himself through on goal. 

However, it was BVB who would score the next goal: Casali brought down Hazard in the box and the referee once again pointed to the spot. Hazard made no mistake to bring the score to 4-0. The final goals of the match were scored by Can and Brandt (in the 85th and 90th minute) with a pair of tidy finishes from around 10 metres out.
