High school delighted with new playground goals funded by BVB foundation
The Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium school in Waltrop is pursuing the long-term goal of establishing itself as a ''healthy school.'' A core part of this approach comes in the form of a playground design which offers pupils various ways to enjoy themselves in an active and sports-related manner during their break. This plan was given a boost at the end of 2018 with the installation of new football goals.
The school considers it important to ensure that all changes made to the playground correspond to the pupils' wishes. As such, a survey was carried out in which approximately 740 children and adolescents took part, with the results showing that there was a particularly high demand for sporting activities. In addition to lunch breaks, it is also intended that the goals may be used in other extra-curricular activities, for example as a meeting point for pupils. To this end, it is hoped that the entirety of the playing field may soon be renovated.
The direct involvement of pupils at the school continued into the execution phase of the project. The successful realisation of the initial plan was largely down to the work of the school council, led by pupils' representative Louis Kruse.
The BVB foundation ''leuchte auf'' made a donation amounting to €6,740 and in doing so paved the way for the installation of the new football goals, which also come equipped with basketball hoops. Pupils at the school are now free to revel in a game of either football or basketball. One thing's for sure: the black and yellow paintwork certainly means that the goals make an eye-grabbing new addition to the school grounds.
With the new goals in place, the school is now looking to install a good playing surface.
