The players covered 242.7 kilometres between them – the Dortmund players 100 metres more than their Bavarian counterparts – in an intense top-of-the-table clash in which the two teams went toe to toe and BVB had the statistical edge: the hosts had slightly more shots (13-11), possession (51 percent) and challenges won (58 percent).

Unfamiliar territory: Bayern Munich had enjoyed more possession than their opponents in each of their 80 Bundesliga matches since December 2017, but today their share of the ball stood at just 49 percent.

Record lost: BVB had been the only Bundesliga club yet to suffer a defeat on home turf this season. Since April 2019, the Black & Yellows had been on a 20-game unbeaten home run in all competitions.

Goalless: For the first time in well over two years – and therefore the first time under Lucien Favre – Borussia Dortmund failed to score in a Bundesliga home game. The last time was a goalless draw against Wolfsburg in January 2018. Their scoring run, which set a new club record, is now over after 38 league games.

Defences breached: The Black & Yellows conceded their first home goal in 427 minutes.

Dominant: Mats Hummels won 11 of his 13 duels with Robert Lewandowski.

Tough tackler: Substitute Emre Can won 75 percent of his challenges.
