After the Borussia Dortmund U23s managed to end their run of five defeats in a row in their game against FC Ingolstadt last week, the Black & Yellows now want to pick up points again. The reserves will be away to promoted VfB Lübeck at 14:00 CEST on Saturday.

BVB personnel: Prince Aning has sustained an injury in training and will miss out on the match on the Ostsee, as will longer-term injury absentees Felix Irorere, Tiago Estevao, Abdoulaye Kamara and Lion Semic.

A point of interest from a BVB perspective: Franz Pfanne can draw level with record holder Marc Hornschuh on Saturday. The defender, who now plays for FC Zürich, made 101 appearances for BVB in the 3. Liga; Pfanne played his 100th match in the division for the Black & Yellows against FC Ingolstadt.

Head-to-head record: The U23s have won four games against VfB Lübeck and suffered three defeats. However, the most recent defeat came almost 19 years ago. The most recent meeting at the Lohmühle in Lübeck took place almost exactly 16 years ago. On the evening before the cup final in 2008, Marcel Schmelzer played for the reserves on the left side of defence in a 4-0 victory. The reverse fixture at Stadion Rote Erde ended 1-1, with Rodney Elongo-Yombo scoring for BVB.

Stats and facts about the home team: Jens Martens is already the third coach to be in charge of the promoted club this season. With 33 rounds of matches now played, VfB are already 11 points adrift of safety. Lübeck have come out on top in only one of their last 10 matches, while the Green & Whites have been on the losing side seven times. VfB might have won a total of three games in the second half-season, but they have scored just 10 goals in 14 games. Three points against BVB would keep VfB in with a mathematical chance of surviving.

Outlook: BVB have recently produced good performances in their 3-2 loss in Sandhausen and also in their 1-1 draw against FC Ingolstadt and will be looking to build on that in Lübeck. The young team dominated against experienced opponents for long spells in both matches. In the attacking department, the returning Paul Besong has shown an upturn in form following his long break, Julian Hettwer has ended his goal drought and Rodney Elongo-Yombo has lined up on the flank again. BVB want to end a strong season a positive note: BVB boast an outstanding record in the 3. Liga with 46 points at present, even if coach Jan Zimmermann did say after the recent run of five defeats in a row: "The points haul has weighed on the atmosphere recently. When you lose a game, you initially think you've got a lot wrong. But we've tried to place the focus on performance and give the boys self-confidence through the way we play football." The coach is optimistic about Saturday: "In Lübeck, we want to confirm our performance from the last two games."

The BVB U23s will not play in parallel to a first-team game for the 13th and final time this season. Kick-off at Stadion Lohmühle in Lübeck will be at 14:00 CEST on Saturday.
