"This is a very proud day for all Borussen," said Hans-Joachim Watzke after qualification for the semi-finals: "It's not like this every day for Borussia Dortmund; the last time we were in the semi-finals was 2013." The BVB boss spoke of an extraordinary match and looked ahead to the matches against PSG: "If you're in the semi-finals, there's one more step – one very difficult step."

"It was extraordinary, a rollercoaster ride," said Watzke, reflecting on the match. "We took the lead, scored twice and then they scored two. A huge compliment to the team: you have to come back like that first. It was a really great evening." Marcel Sabitzer had a hand in three of the four goals. The Austrian claimed two assists and then rounded off the scoring at 4-2, having previously bagged a brace in Gladbach on Saturday. "Marcel Sabitzer has shown in the last few games why we brought him in," said Watzke, adding: "It's also a clear sign that you have to give a player time to integrate into the processes. He is outstanding."

Now Borussia Dortmund will face a semi-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain, whom BVB left trailing in their wake in the group stages; they might not have looked good in the 2-0 loss in the clash in Paris, but they did in the 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture in Dortmund which sealed top spot in the group. After losing the first leg 3-2 at home, the French outfit won 4-1 in Barcelona. Watzke: "I didn't think Paris would manage it. But we'll embrace that now." (br)
