The Borussia Dortmund ladies made a successful start to 2022/23 Kreispokal, storming to an 11-0 (4-0) victory against BV Viktoria Kirchderne in the last 16. Mandy Reinhardt was the star of the show, scoring five goals and providing two assists.

Some 297 days after they lifted the Kreispokal with victory over TV Brechten, Borussia Dortmund's ladies began their campaign to defend the cup. Coach Thomas Sulewski gave a few of the players a well-earned break for the round of 16 game in Kirchderne, making five changes to the starting eleven from the victory in Eichlinghofen. Starting in a 4-4-2-formation, the BVB coach used two strikers for the first time. "We wanted to play a more exciting style and be more courageous than on Sunday, but it took a few minutes to get going," said Sulewski after the game.

After some slight teething problems in the opening stages, striker Mandy Reinhardt had a day to remember. Twice, she made the most of good build-up play from Vanessa Kuhl to put BVB on the road to victory in Stadion an der Weiche, finding the net in the 10th and 25th minutes. On 34 minutes, the Reinhardt-Kuhl double-act proved that it also works the other way round. As in Eichlinghofen, Kuhl scored from range with a great shot into the far corner. Reinhardt was also involved in the fourth goal before half-time, with Lea Rogge-Herper finding the net from her flat cross two minutes before the break.

After the sides changed ends, Reinhardt continued to turn the screw and bagged three more goals in the space of just twelve minutes. She would have had a double hat-trick if it were not for an own goal by Hanna Hartwig to make it 6-0 on 56 minutes. "I'm happy about the five goals, of course. It could have been more, but I am satisfied," said the forward, who was given a well-earned rest when she was taken off after 64 minutes.

In the closing stages of the game, Carolin Kaul (85), Mia Macarena Bedarf (90) and Hannah Goosmann (90+2) added further goals to send BVB through with a final score of 11-0. "We moved the ball well despite the squad rotation and the result was good," coach Sulewski concluded.

The day was slightly marred by a knee injury to Annika Fälker, who had to leave the pitch 22 minutes after coming on. She was taken to the hospital for a further examination. "We wish Anni all the best and hope that it is nothing serious," Sulewski added.

In the quarter-finals, the BVB women face an away trip against the winner of the match between SUS Hörde and TuS Rahm. The ties are due to be played in the first week of April. Next Sunday, 26 March 2023, the big match in the Bezirksliga will take place at the BVB Evonik Football Academy, when top-of-the-table BVB face second-placed Lohausserholz. Kick-off in that one is at 15:00 CET.
