The two clubs that shared the Bundesliga runners-up spot from 2016 to 2023 are set to go head-to-head on Saturday. Both are battling it out this season for fourth place and a guaranteed spot in the Champions League. Here is the facts preview.

The scenario

The in-form Saxons (six wins from their last seven games) are fourth in the Bundesliga table, two points and twelve goals ahead of Borussia Dortmund. A win in Leipzig would see BVB, who have won four away games in a row recently, leapfrog their hosts into fourth place.

Match facts

Since the 4-1 victory in the 2021 cup final, BVB have only won one of six competitive matches against Leipzig: a 2-1 win at home in March 2023.

However, in their Bundesliga history, Leipzig have only lost more matches against Bayern Munich (eight) than against Borussia Dortmund (seven).

Overall, Dortmund's away record against the Saxons is balanced. All other current Bundesliga clubs - with the exception of Bayern Munich - have a negative record in Leipzig.

In the 15 Bundesliga clashes between the two clubs, 51 goals have been scored, an average of 3.4 per match. In the most recent seven, there have even been 28 goals (an average of four per match). No match between the two sides has ever ended goalless.

Leipzig facts

Marco Rose's team have won six of their last seven league games, including all of their last three.

Leipzig have only lost once in their last eleven games: a 2-1 defeat in Munich on 24 February.

The team has the third-best goal difference in the Bundesliga (+35). Only two other teams have scored more goals.

The Saxons have won four of their last five home games (one draw). They have not conceded a goal in these five home games (a club record).

The last home defeat to date dates back to 20 January, when they were beaten 3-2 by Leverkusen.

BVB facts

Leverkusen are the only team to have had fewer games in which they've failed to score than BVB, who have not scored a goal in three games.

Only two teams have conceded fewer goals than Borussia Dortmund.

The Black & Yellows have not lost any of their last twelve matches in which they have taken a 1-0 lead.

BVB have won each of their last four away matches and are unbeaten in ten Bundesliga games on the road. The last time such a streak was achieved was over eleven years ago.

Dortmund have only lost one game away from home. Only Leverkusen are unbeaten in away games.
