He made his Bundesliga debut at the age of 17. That was back in November 2009, in a goalless draw at home to Mainz. Today, nine years and 193 appearances later, Mario Götze was celebrating a 2-1 win over the 05ers.

Speaking to BVB TV, the 26-year-old discussed...
...the match:
"We knew that it was going to be hard work – and it was in the end. We're happy that we got the three points."

...BVB's 12th substitute goal of the season:
"That's down to the quality we have. The coach is doing an excellent job, he has a good eye for it and does it almost weekly. What's important for us is that we continue taking it game by game and pick up points, especially away."

...Lukas Piszczek's winner:
"He scores goals like that fairly often in training. I'm delighted for him. Lukasz is very important for the team. Normally he's responsible for defensive duties, so congratulations on scoring a goal that gave us the three points."

...his Bundesliga debut nine years ago, against Mainz in November 2009:
"That's where it all began. I have fond memories. I'm very happy with how it went. A good anecdote."

...the solidarity with the fans and the rest of the season:
"The fact we're winning games, and the manner in which we're winning games, is creating a positive atmosphere. We won't sit back, because we know that there's still a long way to go. It's still the first half of the season, we have a lot of work ahead of us. We need to keep up this consistency over the entire season. That's a big challenge. We'll do well to continue taking it game by game." (jl)
