At the beginning of November, the BVB primary school project kicked off at four primary schools in Dortmund-Scharnhorst. Although the application for funding had already been approved by the IKK classic in 2019, the start had to be pushed back significantly due to the Covid pandemic. But postponement does not mean cancellation, and the project has now started with these four foundation blocks:

  • Supporting teachers during sport lessons
  • Organising sports clubs
  • Organising further education courses for teachers
  • Club days in the city area

The Siegfried Drupp, Kautsky, Westholz and Buschei primary schools are taking part in the project, which is scheduled to run for two years. The Westholz and Kautsky primary schools kicked off the project on 2 November. Coaches from the BVB Evonik Football Academy stepped up to the plate and gave the PE lessons a special Black & Yellow touch. In the first week, it was primarily a matter of getting to know everyone and organising the lessons together with the sports teacher. They always worked hand in hand, so it was a very varied day for all the children. Buschei Primary School also started this week. Every Friday, we are on site for five hours and offer support to the teachers. Some of them aren't specialised PE teachers, but nonetheless take the lessons - but some are also PE teachers and are happy about the new exercises and games being offered by the BVB experts.

The project has also started at the Siegfried Drupp Primary School. Last Monday, mascot EMMA set out and surprised all the children in the playground. We also had the pleasure of welcoming Mrs Thiel (director of the Prevention Department at IKK classic), who approved the funding application almost two years ago, and Mrs Baumeister (regional managing director at IKK classic). After a joint photo with the headmistress of the Siegfried-Drupp primary school and pupils from grades one to four, we enjoyed watching the sports lessons led by BVB coach Jan. The first class consisted of playing a nice game of catch to warm up.

Of course, mascot EMMA did not miss the opportunity to visit the other three primary schools. Our bee had already visited the Westholz and Buschei primary schools before the autumn holidays. EMMA also visited the Kautsky primary school last Tuesday. All the children were thrilled and delighted to receive a lesson plan from BVB.

Now we are looking forward to two exciting years for the project!
